Remembering James "Jage" Paroline; memorial details

UPDATE:  This was left in the comments section:

A sentiment from Jage’s family:

They were thinking that, if people would like to do something to help, it would be nice if we could all bring flowers from our yards and put them at the traffic circle for Sunday’s memorial. They thought it would be nice if the traffic circle could be a big flourish of
color that day, so that it would serve as a beautiful backdrop to the event. They also wanted to say that they weren’t trying to urge people to spend a lot of money on store-bought things, but that bringing flowers from our yards would be just fine – like Jage would probably do. They also said they’d probably photograph it for Jage’s mother, who can’t come out for the memorial, so that she could see the outpouring of care from the neighborhood.

A memorial service for James Paroline, the man who died last week after he was fatally punched while gardening inside a traffic circle near his house, will be on Sunday.

The service is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at 61st Avenue South and South Cooper Street, in front of Paroline’s house, according to his family.

The ceremony will include the playing of taps and a military color guard — Paroline was a decorated Vietnam veteran.

The event is open to the public. In lieu of flowers, Paroline’s family is requesting that donations be made to the Seattle Humane Society.

Not sure if I will be able to attend; I did bring by flowers last Friday.  Also, I am very glad to have a photo of Mr. Paroline smiling, for everyone to see.

Whites and blacks can now join hands in a circle, light candles, sing and pray that all of this will go away.

That’s what Kris Kime’s family and friends did, and that’s what most white vicims’ families and friends have been doing for the last 40 years.
