Pro Basketball League: No Black Players, “Street Ball”

*This is for everyone living in “post-racial” America*

How badly do Seattle-ites want another pro basketball team?  Clearly we won’t be getting one from the NBA anytime soon.

So would liberal Seattle be willing to take on a different sort of pro-team?  What about one that only has White players?

A new professional basketball league called the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA) sent out a press release on Sunday saying that it intends to start its inaugural season in June, with teams in 12 U.S. cities. However, the AABA is different from other sports leagues because only players who are “natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league.”

I know what you’re thinking- racist! Right?  Not according to the league commish.  Again, from Think Progress:

commissioner Don “Moose” Lewis insists that he’s not racist, but he just wants to get away from the “street-ball” played by “people of color” and back to “fundamental basketball.” Lewis cited the recent incidents of bad behavior by NBA players, implying that such actions would never happen with white players:“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.” [...]

He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas’ indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans’ dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

“Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?” he said. “That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.

“People will come out and support a product they can identify with. I’m the spoken minority right now, but if people will give us a chance, it’ll work… The white game of basketball, which is essentially a fundamental game, works.”

Yeah, so dude is ignorant as a rock and sounds a lot like a racist to me.  Black players don’t play fundamental basketball?  White players are completely upstanding and never do anything to embarrass their team, their sport, or themselves?  He talks about “the fundamentals” of the game like McCain talked about the “fundamentals of the economy” being strong.

Will getting rid of Black players cure basketball’s ills?

It’s not legally or socially acceptable to openly discriminate or spew racism-tinged views.  The founder of the “pro league” obviously lacks common sense, I’m sure many of us can agree on that.

Currently he has no teams, no support from cities and no sponsors.

I give this White-men-don’t-need-to-jump initiative 90 days. Tops.
