Obama's Chicago lunch: Corned Beef with a side of the American People!

You might have heard that our favorite President-elect, Barack Obama, made quite the commotion today when he stopped by a famous Chicago Deli to pick up some sandwiches and gee, a few slices of pie too.  Huh.

Anyway, I’ll give a little squinch of credit to the food for the mid-day jaunt, but after watching the video a few times, I think this little outting had more to do with us, the American people.  Dare I say, Obama was jonesin’ for regular people, so he went out and found some, even managing to bump into someone he hadn’t seen in a while; instantly going from Obama, the Obama, to Barack, the friend.

Obama spent a looong time on the road.  He’s shaken thousands of hands, hugged thousands of people, had millions of photos taken of him, hugged babies, and grandmothers, rally after rally after rally after rally.  Round table discussions, forums, YouTube, it just never ends.

In the blink of an eye, the American people were gone.  The campaign was over.  He won.

Now, rightfully so, he spends his days behind closed doors with his brilliant team, working to protect a smooth and orderly transition.

Why is Barack our President-elect?  Because we all worked our asses off to put him there.  We voted.  We made our family and friends vote; we sat with our parents and gave them “the talk” just to seal the deal!

So my main man obama knows that he has to keep himself real.  in his 60 Minutes interview last Sunday, Obama said that the things that keep a person grounded, those things are starting to be lost for him.  He can’t just step outside his Chicago home and take a stroll down the street.

Protecting his safety is something we all are concerned about, so we’re happy that our Secret Service agents are dilligent.  But if Obama happens to be taking a stroll down the same sidewalk as you, you should prepare to quickly move to the other side of the street.

I don’t know that Obama wants that, in fact, I’m sure he doesn’t want it, he is just aware and accepting of the fact that it is part of the job.  But I do think that he is going to push the envelope while in D.C.

Many have opined that the end of the election was the end of the get-out-there-and-see-the-people Obama we’ve come to appreciate.  Poof!  Into the White House you go!

I’d like to think that there will be a few places Obama can go to have a meal, where customers will be respectful and not catch the holy ghost and just start rocking and crying and clapping and singing.

Alright, I know it wasn’t that bad, and I am not gonna lie; let Obama walk into Ezell’s or Pert’s Deli for a quick bite- I carry my camera everywhere I go.  If I had the children with me it would really be over because the 8 year old has some self defined policy issues he want’s to talk to Obama about face to face.

As for Obama’s lunch today, can you imagine the guy who came in 5 minutes after the motorcaid pulled away?

“Man, you JUST missed it!”

Ouch…

I’m dying to know what the 8 year old’s policy issues are! Me? At age 6 I was all over ending nuclear proliferation. At age 9, it was about the whales. I doubt that either of those issues are what your baby is worried about and for that I have to say the world is surely a better place.

He has a pretty long list, but I know that his top four are:

    War and weapons
    Child safety and exploitation
    Environment/extinction
    Immigration

    Welcome to my world.
