A few
campaign tidbits for you- and this is very brief.
We’re always talking about how minorities are virtually ignored during elections- we’re small in number so candidates think they don’t have to address us. Unless of course they are scared, losing, broke or all of the above.
Last weekend Nickels and Drago decided to attend Sunday Service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the “traditional” and “historic” Black church in the CD. They wern’t there to catch the spirit, they were there to convince people that they really do care, and that they should get the vote.
It seems at least a few members of the church weren’t too happy about what happened, and were vocal about it; they felt the move was a slight, and I understand where they’re coming from.
It’s ironic though, because when you go to church, you’re supposed to do so for selfless reasons. And you’re supposed to contribute to the offering.- especially if you’re a guest- it’s a sign of respect, period. I’m sure Drago and Nickels contributed to the offering- I mean, who would go to someone else’s church and not contribute?!
But as it happens, Dow Constantine also went to Mt. Zion on a separate occasion. He too was there to catch the votes, not the spirit, and it seems the reception was much warmer for him, for whatever reason.
But here’s a question? Who goes to CHURCH as a guest and writes on the donation envelope “email me” with their email address? You didn’t have a dollar? A check book? 2 nickles? Nothing?!
We’ll give Dow the benefit of the doubt; certainly he didn’t wait for an usher to email him. In fact, I’m sure he went back the next day with his contribution.
Right?
