Elisabeth Fritzl's children proved source of income for Josef Fritzl

Investigators say Austrian ‘monster’ Josef Fritzl freed and took custody of three of his incest-born children to gain state benefits. A police investigation indicates that the ‘horror father’ received nearly USD 4000 per month to raise three of the seven children he fathered with his daughter Elisabeth, who was held captive for 24 years in his basement.
“Everything he did was not out of concern for them, but to get money… They were cash cows for him,” said an investigator in Amstetten, Austria.
According to the police findings, Josef’s financial records prove that he was in need of the money to pay off debts.
Josef had managed to convince authorities and his wife Rosemarie that the three children were abandoned on their doorstep by Elisabeth, on the basis of which he was awarded their custody.

The revelation is at odds with the abuser’s earlier claim that he had let the three kids out of the windowless ‘dungeon’ because it was too cramped.
