I haven’t written anything since the 1 year anniversary of the SV Site- thanks to everyone for their well wishes and terrorist fist jabs- it means A LOT! Just so you know I’m still here, here’s a glimpse into what’s been going on, and what’s being formulated for the site.
The Love Movement
The feature article we wrote about the life and murder of Tyrone Love was received with overwhelming positive feedback. It published here, on the SeaSpot.com and will hopefully go up on the FreshXpress.com next week; it was important to me that I write something that anyone from around the world could read and feel like they knew Tyrone- not just us locally, so having it go up on the FX is really satisfying in that way.
Now I’m trying to put together the follow-up. I was contacted by one of Tyrone’s sisters, and had an opportunity to go to the house and talk with her and her mother about what has happened since his murder- and what hasn’t happened; an arrest. That piece will be titled “Where is the Love”. I haven’t been able to go back and listen to the conversation between the three of us just yet. I left their house feeling really angry. People know who did this, and no one has come forward. It is causing a great strain for the family- an unbearable burden, is more like it. Hard as it is, I will get there, and hope to talk to everyone featured in the first article. Perhaps this time the Mayor can take 5 minutes to give us a statement. Hey, we can hope.
School Closures
A few fearless parents in the Seattle School District have sent a very clear message: you may have won the battle, but the war has just begun. At least 3 lawsuites have been filed challenging closuers, including a suit over Cooper in West Seattle. Of ALL the schools and ALL the situations that formed around closures- Cooper in particular still gets the blood boiling. Steve Sundquist is a….mm. You get the idea. Period. One of the parents named in the Cooper suit is also an employee who works in the building. Since her suit was filed, SPS has been fucking with her job- sorry- no other way to say it. The parent/employee has filed a grievance (or 3) and the District has hired an “outside” investigator. We’ll see what happens.
County Leadership
We’ve written before about the next election of a County Exec.; Ron was already questionable for re-election, so “losing” him to the Obama admin., well, I don’t seen anyone crying about it. But Susan Hutchison has recently thrown her hat in the ring and declared the county financially incompitent, which is a GROSS over-simplification of a problem much bigger than her hair, or her thinking skills. It really burns me up thata person who doesn’t know didley squat about the state of the county wants to come in a push her agenda. Lady you don’t know shit about shit. The county has a funding structure problem, PERIOD. All the fat has been cut. Now they’re going after the flesh. Get some damn advisors that know a thing or two and watch what the hell you say. She makes a person want to actively campaign AGAINST her ass.
Seattle Cuts
Speaking of cutting the flesh, Seattle also has a massive deficit that promises to screw over anyone and everyone in its path. Now the Mayor and Council want closed door budget meetings- that means no access to the press or the public. We thought about it for about.000002 seconds and came up with “no, that won’t work. Next idea.”
A New Mayor
Finally, on that Seattle tip, a few cats have tossed their hat into the Mayor’s race for Seattle. I don’t think any of us would disagree that we need to replace what’s his name. I can’t get excited about any of the potentials so far. Still waiting on Peter. The word has been spreading and I’ve been hearing more and more people say “Peter needs to run”. Gawd we hope so.
More soon…
