Black Farmers Settlement: Reparations Phase 1?
The far right must have their collective teabags in a bind over this one.
In an unprecedented ruling, the Obama administration is seeking to settle a long-standing legal battle with African American farmers by paying them… over $1 billion dollars.
As I just said, this stems from a lawsuit won by Black farmers after they alleged the Department of Agriculture discriminated against them. Nevertheless, the paranoid delusional side of this country will certainly only see Obama’s push to settle as one thing: reparations.
No, not reparations for discrimination- reparations for slavery; never mind that a court of law determined the Dept. of Agriculture favored White farmers over Black ones as an unwritten policy.
“I look forward to a swift resolution to this issue so that families affected can move on with their lives,” Obama said.
Not so fast Mister President; the pay-out has to be approved by Congress and a first attempt failed to pass within the last year.
It’s been 11 years since our legal system handed down this ruling, yet Black farmers across the country have yet to see a dime.
The Glenn Becks of the world are going to convince their brainless following that Obama has begun taking from White America in order to give to Black America.
Congress should respect the legal ruling and approve the pay-out- but will they?
It will be interesting to see if the radicals are successful in muddying up the waters enough to whip their base into a frenzy, because when that happens, our most ignorant law makers tend to step to the front of the line and lead the process to spectacle.
