If people can't be safe in the tunnel then those guards are absolutely useless…That is sickening. That child could have been killed or brain damaged…I feel heartsick watching this.
I totally agree are these so called security guards being paid with our tax dollars ? cause if so that is not acceptable and it is also not acceptable to have 3 grown strong men let this child be hit and kicked in the head she could have lost her life with the blows she took to the head . I say that we do not need security of that kind at all we need help against people that are going to attack and bother innocent people trying to catch there bus and go home .. It is not right at all I do not feel safe as an adult and will not be visiting the tunnel anytime soon if so that is where you need a knife , mase or maybe even a gun if they can help protect us then we have to protect ourselves and our families and children… From Mrs Trammel
This is a huge reason my child hates to catch the bus, especially downtown and through certain areas through out Seattle – It's sad and very sickening when you see that people would just stand around and watch while this is happening to anyone; especially when there are hired; paid staff; contracted or not…It's a shame and very disappointing
It is hard to understand how 3 or more strong men could have stood by and not pulled the offender off the victim. I saw a spokesman for Metro on the news stating they "will be looking into this."
My daughter is a middle school teacher in the Seattle Public Schools. She weighs 98 pounds and no child has ever been assaulted in her classroom or in her presence because she would take/ has taken the offender down.
If this is the best these "Security" guards can do, Metro is wasting public money and should just do away with them. Maybe Metro should consult with the Port authority of New York and New Jersey. Or consider recruiting former military with some actual training in crowd control to patrol the bus tunnel.
Be advised people I have overseen/supervised more than a few security guard services in my day and what you see represented here in this video is the most common form. They are truly only trained observers, and their job is to provide a visual deterrent, observe, and report, period! They are in essence the cheapest form of security available, to train someone to the level where they are certified to put their hands on someone like a Seattle Police Officer is expensive and most companies aren't willing to bear the cost security guards of that level runs in the $20+ dollar an hour range and few guard companies supply them.. So who should pay for this extra level? Should it be mandatory at all public facilities? these are just some of the question this and other crissis like it raise. As a society what is our responsibility? Not one adult witness there did a thing and I can assure you I would have! I have a child and wwould want someone to do it for my kid. i
Now, as to the actual men involved know that if they had laid one hand on a any child involved in this incident they would have opened themselves and their company up to a potential lawsuit, especially if anyone was hurt by their direct action. What I'll be more interested to see since we have clear and telling video images will Seattle Police actually prosecute someone for this assault, if history is any indicator nothing will come of their investigation justice israrely served when minorities are involved.
They should change their designations from 'security' to 'observity'(yes, I made it up).

The tunnel security is contracted out to Olympic Security. New hires start out at just over $11 an hour.
why even pay for uniforms, they could just stand around all day inconspicuously and blend in. I do not believe that their job is to fight on anyone's behalf, but this simply cannot be tolerated. I'm not sure why that girl was targeted (hated on) but I do know that the girl and the guy (coward) that stole her purse should receive "HARSH" PUNISHMENTS!!!.
Fighting (jumping) someone innocent in the tunnel should definitely be treated differently than an incident happening on the street level. You do NOT come into the tunnel for anything other than taking PUBLIC transportation.
I am angry and saddened by the continuing Black on Black crime and the gang mentality.. God bless the girl that will forever be traumatized by this and probably will never be treated for PTSD….. God forgive the UNIFORMED BYSTANDERS, for they know not what they do….I mean they do NOTHING knowingly.
The saddest thing to me about this video is that the girl was clearly looking for protection from the "Security" Guards before she was assaulted. She walked to them hoping that they would deter and protect her from her assailants. Any reasonable person would assume that security guards are there to deter and stop crime. To find out that opposite is true is appalling.
What are these security guards responsible for that video surveillance cameras don't do? What an incredible waste of taxpayer money and what an incredible fraud perpetrated by Metro on the public that it is pretending to protect.
I am so angry and saddened by black on black crime and the gang mentality. the girl and the boy (coward) that stole this girls purse should be HARSHLY punished. There should be an increased penalty for violence committed in the tunnel when this is strictly available for "public" transportation.
Secondly, the "security" (lack thereof) should be reexamined and either increased or not budgeted for, their useless. This girl (victim) is going to be traumatized (Ptsd) for the rest of her life AND PROBABLY WILL NOT BE TREATED FOR PTSD because of this incident, a high price to pay for wearing what some others refer to as offensive clothing and the lack of security. God bless the girl, God help us all
